Sunday is a day to gather to plan our attack for the week, and get to know each other. During introductions, it was extremely touching to hear some of the stories people told about why they choose this way of giving back. So many of the surgeons and nurses spoke about what they receive on these trips–the reward is truly in the giving. After all 31 of us were introduced, we met some of our interpreters and medical students for the week, and our hospital liaison. After the meeting, we headed out to a lunch by the sea, a tour of downtown, a stroll through a famous park with fountains, and a lovely dinner overlooking Incan ruins. Does it sound like a party? Don’t worry, tomorrow the party ends and it’s a full work schedule until Friday. We are ready.
